What makes DUCC so different, progressive, and welcoming?

Since you’re visiting this site, and you’ve reached the “About Us” page, you may be asking that question. A lot of churches claim to be different. Sometimes, though, when you actually experience what they offer, you see that it’s a lot of the same.

Disciples United Community Church (DUCC) truly is different because we were founded to be different. We like to say that we are “unapologetically alternative.” What started as a small, informal Bible study with people who needed more than what traditional churches offered grew into the first mainline Christian church in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, that welcomed the LGBT community.

But it’s more than that. We have always welcomed, honored, and affirmed all persons. Regardless of your age, race, sex, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, we welcome you. If you call yourself “spiritual but not religious,” a believer, a seeker, a spiritual orphan, a questioner, or completely undecided, we welcome you. If you have ever felt betrayed, misled, or abandoned by other churches, we welcome you.

And our differences grow beyond that. You’ll find progressive theologies and worldviews at DUCC that challenge “traditional” church thinking. For example, you won’t find creeds, belief statements, or dogmas here. Quite simply, our experience tells us that these things tend to divide rather than unite people. That’s why we focus on right relationships, not right beliefs at DUCC. The relationships we have with God and with each other are what’s important.

We invite you.

We invite you to explore these pages, and read more about who we are and what we do. We invite you to reach out to us, and ask your questions. We invite you to visit a program, and experience the difference for yourself. We look forward to getting to know you!
